We campaigned for many years for better protection for the country's best wildlife sites. Many sites in Yorkshire are under threat and we had press articles about sites threatened by acid rain, pollution, climate change etc. In 2000 our campaigning was successful with the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 passed into law. The act improved the former situation and now the state of many sites has slowly improved although climate change and air pollution remain significant threats. For information about wildlife sites in Yorkshire see the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust website. The trust would be happy to help you with advice or information regarding campaigning on threatened wildlife or wildlife sites. They also have an extensive library with information about a wide range of issues of significance for campaigning on these issues. Please contact them directly if you would like permission to use this resource.

Whilst land sites and wildlife marine wildlife is currently poorly protected. Many organizations have called on the government to pass a marine bill but the government has been slow to act and currently has no plans to announce a Marine Bill in the Queen's Speech (the speech announcing the goverment's plans for new legislation) this autumn (2007). Information about campaigning for a Marine Bill is available at http://www.wwf.org.uk/marineact/main.asp or from the Friends of the Earth related organization MARINET.
